Fire Country Season 4 picked up right where it left off with a major Season 3 cliffhanger.

Station 42 watched in horror as Sharon (Diane Farr), Vince (Billy Burke), and Walter (Jeff Fahey) were trapped inside the burning memory care facility. Jake (Jordan Calloway) locked Bode (Max Thieriot) in the 3 Rock buggy to keep him from running inside the exploding building.

Once Sharon and Walter are safely outside and on their way to the hospital, the focus shifts to Vince. Sadly, when Vince is found, it’s revealed he didn’t make it.

There are no words used, as Jake looks at Vince’s body being pulled out of the burning building and knows the beloved battalion chief is gone. The look on Jake’s face lets Gabriela (Stephanie Arcila), Manny (Kevin Alejandro), and Eve (Jules Latimer) know Vince is dead.

When Bode is freed from the buggy, Manny breaks the news to him about his father. It’s a gut-wrenching scene that sets the stage for the rest of the premiere as well as the season.

Even though Vince’s death was sad, it was not unexpected. The Fire Country Season 4 trailer confirmed that he was the one who didn’t make it out of the fire. This came after speculation after the Season 3 finale that Burke was exiting the CBS drama.

Life at Station 42 will look a lot different without Vince, especially when a new character rolls into town. Fire Country’s creator, Joan Rater, warned fans that the newbie will “break our fragile heroes.”

Thieriot also gave insight into the impact Vince’s death has on Bode, and it’s a journey Fire Country fans won’t want to miss. Season 4 is going to be one for the books, that’s for sure!

Fire Country airs Fridays at 8/7 on CBS.
